Fresh from winning his second MVP award, James Yap was quickly jerked down from the pedestal.
While he was giving his speech and his post Leo Awards interviews, there were court officials that were trying to enter the Araneta Coliseum via the South Gate to slap him with a piece of paper that would surely shatter his evening and crush his being.
The Makati Regional trial court sheriff went to the Big Dome to serve Yap papers petitioned by his wife Kris Aquino for the declaration of the nullity of their marriage which was filed last Monday, August 9. This was after 6 in the evening, with these hardworking sheriffs having to tender over time hours just to catch Yap.
An ABS CBN news crew was very fortunate to have been able to get the three sheriffs or court staff in action, and when they were walking away, unsuccessful with still the papers in their possession. They were the only news crew that was present, apart from the Solar TV coverage team who were busy inside running the show. Their exclusive news story filled the airwaves that night, but the incident was already “burning the lines” on the internet.
On twitter alone, numerous individuals aired how appalled they were with what transpired.
@kcabal25: something is definitely not right. at nag overtime pa si sheriff para lang i-abot yun? come on!
@architectkim: special delivery from the palace? Haha
@angel17raine: so sad people can't give J.Yap at least one night.. I'm glad James got the award at least he has something to be happy about.
@ekninetyeight: I’m no fan of James but that’s just downright insensitive & stupid! Maybe there are "POWERS" behind it....Power tripping!
@ka_chewy: that's a low blow. Hindi man lang hinayaan na nam-namin nung tao ang award. At may tv crew in tow pa? IMO, may nagsabi na dun i-serve.
@dregonz: Let me see. Announcement on the President’s inauguration, death anniversary of her mom, and her ex-hubby's moment. Someone wants attention!!!
@calaicai: I think that was deliberate! Couldn't they wait until he gets home? Do they really need to serve it in Araneta?
@sentime: me thinks, it was well orchestrated to. An irony for JCY and a hell of publicity for someone who's known to be an attention getter.
@jezellelapid: My dad's one (a sheriff) & serves orders early as possible. As for that sheriff, I think it was in purpose. He cud have done it earlier.
Apparently, the sheriffs also tried to serve James Yap the papers during the B-Meg Derby Ace meeting the day before but were not able to catch him. They also knew his current home address but they opted to go to these public places.
James Yap has been as elusive as he has been on the court when the defense tries to stop him while in full throttle. He just did a wicked cross over on them and they were lost. I’m sure by this time though the papers have been served. And most likely he’ll continue to keep mum on the issue as he has been.
That night, James shared that it has been two weeks since he last saw his son Baby James whom he dedicated the award to. It was that night that they arrived from their US trip. Yap openly admits that he misses his son terribly and wishes to see him soon.
The next chapter for James’ career starts with a new team name, Petron and a new coach who will soon be named. Yap shares that it could come from the assistant coaching ranks or from one of the San Miguel sister teams. He too is left in the dark. He’ll surely miss Coach Ryan Gregorio who has been mentoring him from the beginning but wishes him well.
