one player will be coming back to life.
He's been sent packing but little did he know, his destination is to another team.
He was the most remarkable in the NCAA in his collegiate prime, and his efforts are notable enough in the pros. Hopefully we can hear him roar again should this deal push through
The other half of this trade was a former tiger but we only get squeeks of his old self. Not a good sign if this trade pushes through because he won't get to play till next season for his 3rd team.
Bye Bye Brown
So Denham Brown is to be replaced....
He had flashes of brilliance, but flashes is apparently not what the Gin Kings need.
The embattled squad is struggling for form as of late but a golden opportunity presents itself... A window is open for them to get in the quarterfinals outright and take at least a week off to regroup.. But also going for that ticket are the Elastopainters who are looking a lot more potent with former Ginebra import Rod Nealy fitting nicely with the style of Norwood and Mercado.
Chris Daniels arrives this morning... I lost count... is he the 4th import?
Whatever floats their boat.
He has played 3 seasons in Poland according to the Ginebra. Looking at his stats,he averaged 10 points and 8 rebounds.
He averaged 8.6 points and 6.4 rebounds when he was at the University of Georgia, playing 4 years with the Bulldogs.
Ginebra is ofcourse hoping he can do better than Brown and help the team get to the next level with more ease.

CONSIDER THIS AN INVITATION
From my Manila Standard column 6/25/10
As part of their preparation, the powers that be behind the RP Gilas team have organized a five-team, four-day tournament which pits them against two PBA and two foreign squads. The Smart Philippine Invitation Challenge debuted yesterday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium and the crowd was extremely ecstatic to see the Rajko Toroman mentored squad test their mettle against some high-calibre competition.
Talk and Text is currently the best squad in the PBA, based on their win-loss record of 15-3, plus they have an automatic semis ticket to boot. Since they’ll be on an extended break, they surely appreciate an opportunity to keep the saw sharp. Ginebra on the other hand might still be looking for the right combinations and chemistry but they do have one of the most potent line-ups in the PBA. Watch out for the Gilas vs Ginebra tiff tomorrow at 5pm. The Gin Kings have lost some real important games as of late and Coach Jong might just use these matches to gel his talents. Games of both the PBA teams will be non-bearing, but the result will have weight on their opponents’ team standings in this single round format.
The Jordanian Nationals, who are preparing for the World Basketball Championships in Turkey next year are backed by the solid coaching of Mario Palma, whose resume includes steering Angola to three FIBA Africa titles in a row. This is one of the best teams in Asia.
The Dongguan Leopards team from China are no easy contender either. Overcoming their height and inside presence will be a true test for the Gilas squad who are preparing for the Guangzhou Asian Games. Their centers Sun Zhe and Zhang Kai stand at 7’3” and 6’11” respectively. One of the mentors of this guest team is Brian Goorjian who was behind the back to back Olympics appearances of Australia and is considered one of the best basketball coaches from down under.
Marcio Lassiter and JV Casio have just recovered from their injuries and this is a great time to whip them back into competition shape. Also Chris Lutz needs more exposure and so does their new naturalization candidate Marcus Douthit who hopefully will make the grade after three previous, unsuccessful attempts at signing up some extra muscle for Gilas.
By Sunday, the third ranked team will play an exhibition match against Talk and Text on Sunday at 5pm, while the top two will vie for the finals match come 7pm. Fans can troop to the venue to purchase their tickets or get them from Ticketnet outlets. It certainly is an opportunity no basketball fan would want to miss. Consider it an invitation.
Here’s another invitation. I’ve been working with the High Five Hope foundation and we have been running a sports fest for street kids. This year, being our third, we have extended the tournament from May to October so that we can maximize the exposure of the hundreds of kids we help to some healthy competition and an alternative to drugs, crime and other horrendous activities they resort to when they are out on the streets. We have some great young basketball prospects who will probably never have the opportunity to succeed despite their talent. But we want to change that.
Through the help of the Kobe Bryant Family Foundation and the Gina Alexander Philanthropy Project, we have a golden opportunity to send some of our best young basketball players from our charity program to the KOBE BRYANT BASKETBALL ACADEMY in Sta. Barbara, California on July 7-11. A chance to learn from the Black Mamba himself will definitely change the course of the lives of these kids. But we can’t pull it off without your help. We are in dire need of sponsors.
Should there be anyone out there who would like to learn more about our endeavour and help us send these kids to the KBBA, do get a hold of us through www.twitter.com/patriciahizon or patriciahizon@gmail.com.

BEYOND GAME 7
From my Manila Standard article 6/18/10
BEYOND GAME 7
The whole world is going to watch the conclusion of the fierce battle between the Los Angeles Lakers who are looking for their 16th title, and the Boston Celtics who is the winningest in the NBA with 17. The action will be aired live today at 9am (Manila) on Solar TV and BTV. There are also live viewing events organized by the network like the one in KFC Eastwood where we get to give out prizes to people to answer NBA trivia questions we ask during timeouts. It’s a great atmosphere, overflowing with NBA fanatics who react, scream, cheer, and mock in surround sound.
Boston could’ve had it in game 6 but the real Lakers took a stand and pushed the series to a game 7. Big problem would be Kendrick Perkins leaving a big hole in the middle. He’s out due to a torn PCL and MCL. Still, not to take away from the game, both teams will put every bit of strength and know-how about the game into this to take the ultimate prize. Whatever the outcome, it will be an astonishing finish to an remarkable series.
After the finals war dust has cleared and a winner is proclaimed, the Celtics Assistant Coach Tom Thibodeau will reportedly announce his acceptance of the head coaching position for the Chicago Bulls. A two year multi-million dollar contract has been offered to Thibodeau who has gotten a lot of praise for the Celtics’ defensive strategies.
Even Kobe Bryant was impressed and admitted to the press that the Celtics defense gave them hell.
He’s been an assistant for 18 years for multiple teams and his services has been sought after. New Orleans and New Jersey both have dangled an offer, but Monty Williams and Avery Johnson got the jobs eventually.
Thibodeau, with his mastery and experience, is expected to breathe new life to the Bulls after Vinny del Negro didn’t fully satisfy management after 2 seasons finishing at 7th and 8th in the East. No one likes being shown the exit after the first round of the post season.
Another Tom is making news in the NBA coaching ranks.
In Cleveland, with Lebron James officially on the free agency market by the first of July, still unsure of which offer he’ll take, Michigan State head Coach Tom Izzo decided to turn down the Cavalier’s head coaching job offer.
Not having one of the game’s most illustrious stars outweighed the reported 5-year, $30 million offer sheet. I guess he also took into consideration how Mike Brown was fired even after leading the team to its most successful season.
The future for the Cavs may be onerous and bleak post LBJ era.
Let’s talk even beyond game 7 on www.twitter.com/patriciahizon and www.patriciahizon.blogspot.com

NEALY ARRIVING
Rod Nealy just posted on his twitter; I leave 4 the Philippeans on Saturday.
Two things:
1. He misspelled "Philippines" but that could've just been an innocent mistake. No biggie.
2. Who will he be playing for?
My initial thought is that he'd play for Ginebra and replace Denham Brown. But even Erik Menk asked Nealy on twitter who he'd be playing for, so that means it's probably not for HIS team. Besides, Brown's playing real well.
Then I remember someone saying something in passing and put it all together.
A text from Assistant Coach Richard del Rosario confirmed that Rod Nealy is coming to play for Rain or Shine. Jai Lewis will be playing his last game tomorrow. It was announced to the team earlier and Lewis is taking it well.
We've seen great imports come and go. Jai's a special one. He's great on and off the court and he's helped ROS a lot the past couple of years. Sad to see Lewis go, and he'll be missed by his fans.

These are just two issues that are being tackled right now and obviously, if you're a true supporter of the league, you only want what is best.
I'm hoping that these are just issues that are being questionned and not issues that will eventually rock the foundations of the league that we all love.
These allegations are not totally proven. They ones in question reportedly got the clear. It should end there right? But, the ones on the other side of the fence are still trying to keep the issue burning.
Why is that?
Should it be proven, the complainants have something to gain of course.
The battles are spilling out of the sidelines. I hope it doesn't get ugly.
As for the ones in question - much luck to you. Hope it all works out,

San Miguel Coach
So now you might have figured out that my last blind item was about the San Miguel head coaching quandary.
Watching the replay of the game, the television panel was perplexed. Ofcourse I was too when I found out early this morning.
Coach Ato Agustin is seemingly calling the shots for the San Miguel Beermen and coach Siot is somewhat giving way. It's not for them to decide. They are merely doing what management expects them to do - win the crown!
It's a tough situation. Hope plans fall into place for the sake of not just the team, but the fans.

HEAD COACHING SHIFT
Despite the glory you've given to the team, despite the greatness you have steered them to, there will come a time when you just won't be good enough for them anymore.
Your efforts are never going to be enough because they'll never be satisfied. They won't settle for anything less than a crown. They won't stop till they're back on top.
You seem to have the tools to do it, but they just want some assurance.
Everyone's kept on their toes.
To us common folks, today we'll witness a shift. As to how dramatic the changes will be, remains to be seen. Internally they've introduced a new catalyst and will slowly take his place and look more and more prominent.
This is a huge change. A big shift. It's a tough challenge.
Let's see if they'll manage the changes properly.

The return
He shall go back to one of the teams he's been with.
1 on 1 talks have happened.
This is not a trade.
They can pick him up because he is a free agent.
The team getting him back need his caliber on point.
This could be interesting.
Could both team n player be brought back to life??

Watch Cortez debut with the Gins June 13 vs Coke.
Billy Mamaril's with Air 21 now.
Congratulations to the ones who guessed it off my last post. Even some of the coaches read this blog and went on a guessing game spree too! I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. Sorry it took me a while before I updated this blog. But at least you got it here first.
So one trade down... how many more to go?????

Shhhhh....
Seriously this team is always mentioned in trade talks...
Why? Because they can trade and they want to get better. All of them do.
Here's the latest buzz...
They'll get a 1 for a 4/5
though the guy they're getting is cool and all, they've got enough of his type.
They're shipping someone whose initial transfer plans did not push through.

TRADE: OFFICIALLY ON THE TABLE
It's now finally being officially offered.
Negotiations are currently underway for a trade which will be the CENTER of attraction in the next coming days.
A team trying to lick its wounds is offering their tried and tested, solid center.
Clue: They can't just sharpen their claws on a rock
The other team is looking at the pros and cons of having to give up one of their bigs. They've got two candidates. Both are younger, with a lot more years ahead. But only one will be traded out.
Clue: To stay on the throne, they might have to give up one who can soar, or one who has been BILLeted on the bench often times too long.

NEW GINEBRA IMPORT?
From My manila standard Article 6/4/10
Being 3rd in the standings is not enough for the Baranggay Ginebra Gin Kings who are hoping to edge out San Miguel and Talk and Text for the outright semi finals seat. Would be difficult to topple these teams who are 11 and 2 on record, but maybe with a new import, they could stand a better chance.
27 year old former Canadian National team player Denham Brown who stands 6 feet 6 inches tall is set to arrive today from Vancouver. Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Brown was a celebrated player in his high school days in West Hill College Institute where he scored 111 points in one game! So amazing was that feat that he was featured in Slam magazine and was recruited by the University of Connecticut Huskies where he was regarded as one of their go to guys. They won the national title in 2004 during his sophomore year.
He also played for Canada in 2003 alongside Steve Nash where they placed 4th of 10 teams in the Tournament of the Americas, then he was also retained in the roster for the 2005, and 2007 FIBA Americas Championship.
He was drafted 40th overall in the NBA in 2006 but never saw regular season action with the Seattle Supersonics. He ended up with the D-League’s Tulsa 66ers where he normed nearly 20 points per game, and later journeyed to Turkey and Italy before going back stateside to play for the Iowa Energy.
Coach Jong Uichico is still deciding if they will be using Brown or Mildon Ambres for their game on Saturday in Batangas against Talk and Text. They’ll need a lot of help specially because Erik Menk will be sitting out the game and the Texters are riding on a franchise best 10-game winning streak.

WE MEET AGAIN
FROM MY MANILA STANDARD COLUMN 6/4/10
We’re about to witness the last two champions of the NBA go at it for supremacy. The LA Lakers are looking to avenge their 2008 finals defeat while the Boston Celtics are hungry to be back on top. LA has been to the finals 10 more times than Boston. But the Celtics, with 17, have won 2 more titles than Los Angeles. Brace yourselves for another chapter of one of the most celebrated sports rivalries of all time. One that will determine who truly is THE finest.
The Lakers and the Celtics have been on opposing championship ends eleven times, nine of those going Boston’s way. The only time Lakers survived was during the Magic Johnson era when the proud purple and gold brought back the title in 1985 and 1987. They’ve had 4 finals game 7s against each other, and Boston always prevailed. The last was in 1984 when finals MVP Larry Bird provoked his teammates to fight like REAL MEN after the Lakers won the first two in Boston. Time to bring back that old school clash.
We begin another battle that has all the potential to be one of the greatest ever. The Lakers are full of talent and are imposing with their size while the Celtics are so experienced and are arresting with their tenacity. Both had a victory over the other this season, both had struggles in the earlier rounds, and both had exterminated pesky opponents in their Conference finals. The Lakers set on Phoenix’s Suns, while Boston made Orlando’s Magic disappear.
Now Kobe Bryant gets another chance against the Big Three and the team that tore him apart two years ago in his MVP season. He wants nothing more than Chapter 12 to end his way. Everyone, even Bryant himself, wonders if they’ve matured enough to overcome the defense that Boston killed them with in 6 games.
Having the home court advantage this time around could play a big role for the Lakers to conquer their tormentors. They haven’t been beaten in Staples this post season so that could be a big boost to their bid. They are much better on the defensive end now and are led by a more efficient Bryant who’s notched in over 30 points in the last 10 of 11 games. If you have a Ron Artest who could be more consistent, or jump at the opportunity to save the day, a Derek Fisher who continues to stabilize, a one-two punch inside in Pao Gasol and Lamar Odom, then the Celtics might just tap out of this one.
But Boston may have enough in their arsenal to beat the odds though. They have the solid core of Kevin Garnett, Paul Peirce and Ray Allen who will keep the defense on their toes. Then they have the smooth operation of Rajon Rondo who makes ball movement a weapon more than an asset. They’ve dethroned a King and diluted Superman, they could take away the venom of the Black Mamba with their sturdy defense.
This is great for basketball fans worldwide. Classic rivalry, larger than life personalities, the biggest stage in basketball, the most important battle. Which side are you taking?

CLUES ON NEW IMPORT
Remember what I said about teams getting new imports? Well, this import is the one that could possibly deliver a stronger kick.
He can add COLOR to the team!
He was a high school phenom. He was SLAMmin!
He was a college champ.
He was drafted in the NBA.
He played for flag and country and played in other countries.
WE GREW UP IN THE SAME CITY.
The eagle is landing in less than 24.
Could be in time for a big show down? THey have yet to decide.
